Varicose Veins

Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are the enlarged and twisted veins. This disease occurs by blood reflux when a valve (venous valve) to prevent the blood from flowing backward does not work properly. It makes the blood vessels bulge like lumps.
Although it is not a life-threatening disease, it can bring on various symptoms including leg swelling and pain.

Minimally Invasive Treatment of Varicose Veins

Endovenous Laser Ablation Therapy

Endovascular laser treatment is a therapy to close the deteriorated vein using a micro tube(laser fiber) and the heat generated by laser energy.
Since it requires only a very small incision to insert a fiber, it is attracting attention as a minimally invasive treatment.

Four benefits
  1. Treatment is done just by inserting a fine needle
  2. Less pain and less bleeding after the treatment
  3. Small and inconspicuous incision
  4. Health Insurance applicable

Our Approach to Varicose Veins

Although 1470nm laser has been widely used in Europe for its benefit of less pain and less subcutaneous bleeding, there were no approved devices available in Japan as of 2013. We conducted a clinical trial of 1470nm laser device at three centers to evaluate its safety and efficacy in Japanese population. We then obtained a regulatory approval for the device in 2016 followed by its launch. Later on in 2018, we introduced a finer laser fiber to provide even less invasive treatment than before.
